One of the first things you will do as an Intern is prepare for and pass the state life/health licensing exam and be appointed as a New York Life College Agent. As a licensed College Agent with New York Life, you get more than experience and a paycheck. You will have the ability to make a lasting impact on your client’s lives by helping them set and reach their most important financial goals. You may help young parents provide financial security for their children should something happen to them unexpectedly. You may help business owners save for retirement and protect the business they have spent a lifetime building. You may help people like your parents plan for the likelihood of spending time in a nursing home, without having to use all of the assets they have worked so hard to accumulate. You will make this impact by scheduling appointments, meeting with potential clients, analyzing the information you gather, and making product recommendations/sales to help them meet their financial goals. Most importantly, you will provide ongoing service and support to these policyholders. As your clients' needs and goals change, you’ll be there to help them adjust their portfolio of insurance and financial products to meet those changing needs. Requirements for our Intern Program • Junior, Senior or graduate student with at least one full semester remaining before graduation • Minimum GPA of 2.0 • Time: 15 to 20 hours per week, coordinated with your school schedule • Positive attitude: A willingness to learn and a desire to excel • Integrity: Respect a New York Life tradition that has existed since 1845 • Reliability: Attend all scheduled meetings and training sessions COMPENSATION from the get-go! • Stipend during initial training and licensing period (up to a certain amount). The maximum amount you can receive is $540. You will earn this stipend as you complete the milestones outlined by your recruiter. • Commission-based pay in the field after licensing and appointment From the start, you may be eligible for a stipend during the initial training and licensing phase of the program. During this time, you’ll attend any state required pre-licensing course, prepare for and pass the state Life/Health licensing exam. On average, the time to complete state licensing requirements is six weeks, although this does vary from state to state. You will also attend training courses taught by our full-time Sales Development Managers. As a College Agent with New York Life, you’ll have professional trainers, recruiters, and often times an experienced agent, working together to teach you the information and skills you need to hit the ground running. Once you are licensed and appointed, your income potential is significant. It’s a chance for you to earn and control your income, from the start.
